Over the course of more than thirty years with Animal Arts I designed and helped clients to build projects ranging in size from 900 to 45,000 square feet. I designed a lot of mega-medical specialty surgery centers, pet boarding facilities and high-end boutique clinics. Looking back on all these projects it occurs to me my favorite projects were the ones where I sat down with a client one-on-one to produce a small, intensely personal, uniquely special small clinic.
Fortunately since establishing smaller can be better I have had the opportunity to do exactly that.
Over the last six years I have worked on a range of projects-- remodels, leaseholds, and even a few free-standing new facilities. I have worked with veterinarians that were doing their first start-up clinic, and for veterinarians that were wanting to do just one more clinic before they retired. And in each instance the answer was to design a facility that was unique and special, tailored to their specific needs.
That’s what I like to do. That’s what I can do for you.

Prior to founding smarter can be better I was a founding partner at Animal Arts Design Studios. During that time I designed hundreds of veterinary facilities across the United States, Canada and the world. Forty of our projects won Veterinary Economics Merit Awards and three more projects won Hospital of the Year Awards.
More recently, while practicing as smarter can be better, I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of veterinarians. Together we designed a remarkable range of inventive, cost effective, small clinics… setting the stage for those practices to grow and prosper.
